Art Nouveau photo exhibition in Herend
2026. April 7.
The Herend Porcelain Museum hosts a photo exhibition presenting the architects of the Hungarian Art Nouveau in the territory of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
The special feature of the exhibition is that Art Nouveau architecture and porcelain art are displayed in one space, thus evoking the atmosphere of an era more than a hundred years ago.
At the opening ceremony, Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development, emphasized that Art Nouveau was not only an artistic trend, but also a change in perspective. He added that the balance of tradition and innovation has been playing a key role in the two-hundred-year history of the Herend Manufactory.
Karl Wilfing, President of the Lower Austrian Parliament, spoke about the fact that in the current difficult European situation, the connecting power of culture, which can strengthen trust and understanding between people, is particularly important. Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of the Manufactory, emphasized that the exhibition is a good example of how art forms a bridge between countries and regions. He emphasized that the Art Nouveau era clearly marked Herend’s path, which can be summarized in uniqueness, high quality, exclusive artisanal production and continuous innovation.
Peter Schubert, the curator of the exhibition, pointed out that outstanding examples of Hungarian Art Nouveau include the building of the Royal Hungarian Postal Savings Bank and the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest. He also spoke about the Reform Art Nouveau, which drew from Transylvanian folk architecture and whose traces can be seen, among others, in the Petőfi Theatre in Veszprém.
The exhibition awaits visitors in Herend until mid-May.
